Crankshaft is the most important part of internal combustion engine. It is usually made of Alloyed steel (Cr, Ni, Mo) with high fatigue strength. Generally medium-carbon steel alloys are composed of iron and contain a small percentage of carbon (0.25% to 0.45%), along with combinations of several other alloys.
The function of the Crankshaft is to translate the linear reciprocating motion of Pistons into the rotational motion required by the automobile as shown below.
